The Mayor of Gračanica municipality, Srđan Popović, laid the
foundation stone for the construction of the annex of the
Elementary School "Kralj Milutin" in Gračanica today.
The project envisages the construction of four classrooms, the
renovation of floors, equipping of classrooms, reconstruction of
the gymnasium, installing the plumbing and joinery and installing
heating. The funds for this project in the amount of 330,000 euros
were provided from the local budget, and according to the
dynamic plan, the works should last for three months.
According to the Mayor of Gračanica municipality, Srđan Popović,
by investing in education and building schools, we are investing in
the future and survival in Kosovo.
"We want to create the best conditions for our children’s
education, we want to invest in education, because in this way we
invest in our survival here. In the Elementary School "Kralj Milutin"
there are two secondary schools with more than 1100 pupils, and
with this expansion, they will receive adequate conditions. At the
beginning of the next year, the High School Center in Laplje Selo
will be finished and in this way we will disburden the facilities",
said Popović.
Popović pointed out that the beginning of today's work was the
result of an agreement between school principals.
"At the last year’s meeting, they said they needed space. We met
their requests and this is the result of our conversations. I expect
everything to be finished before the beginning of the school year",
Popović said.
Together with Mayor Popović, the foundation stone was laid by
the teacher at the Elementary School "Kralj Milutin", Ljubomir
Maksimović, and Director of the Nursing School, Miodrag Živić.
"We missed space and it means a lot to us for better education of
our children. Because there is also a Secondary School for Civil
Engineering and Transportation, we have worked in three shifts,
and the additional classrooms will disburden teaching", said the
director of the Nursing School.
"I am happy to get a school space, I hope that more children will
be born and that their number will be doubled in this school. The
roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet, because if
there is no education here, then there will be no survival for us.
This is a great day and thank the Municipality of Gračanica for
everything it does", said teacher Ljubomir Makismović.
Today's laying of the foundation stone was also attended by the
directors of the municipal departments, teachers of the
Elementary School "Kralj Milutin", as well as professors of two
secondary schools that function in this educational building.
