Mayor of Gračanica municipality, Srđan Popović laid the
foundation stone today for the construction of houses to
Simić family from Gračanica and Stanojević from Laplje Selo.
In addition to these two ones, the Municipality of Gračanica
has allocated funds for the construction of four more
houses, so that by the end of the year, six socially vulnerable
families will get a roof over their heads.
The foundation stone was first laid for the four-member Simić
family from Gračanica. The host, Milan Simić, thanked the
Municipality of Gračanica and emphasized that this was a
confirmation of their stay and survival. Milan's wife Brankica says
the living conditions were impossible.
"We have been living without a bathroom, we did not have
the conditions for a normal life. Thank the Mayor for
recognizing our problem and we are looking forward to
building a home. We remain here to live and work”, said
Brankica Simić, who will move into the new house with her
family by the end of the year.
One of the six families that will also be provided with housing is
the family of Zlatan Stanojević from Laplje Selo. The dilapidated
house they live in is more than 150 years old, and Zlatan says
that with the salary of an auxiliary worker at the school and two
pupils, he could not set aside funds to build a new house.
Mayor of Gračanica municipality, Srđan Popović said after laying
the foundation stone that the Municipality of Gračanica would
continue at a rapid pace to provide housing for all families in need
of this type of assistance in the coming period.
"Today we have laid the foundation stone for two houses.
Construction of four more houses will start in the coming
weeks. I am glad that we were able to allocate funds for the
construction of six houses this year and we will not stop on
this. One of the priorities of the Municipality of Gračanica is
to come to the locals’ assistance and we hope that in two
years we will have a minimum number of social cases that
need our help in this regard”, Popović said.
Being present during laying the foundation stone, the President of
the Interim Body of the City Assembly of Priština, Ljubinko
Karadžić, provided support to the Municipality of Gračanica in
housing care of citizens. He said that he was pleased by the fact
that another socially vulnerable family would be provided with
housing and the goal of all was that citizens have normal living
conditions so, as he said, they would stay and survive here.
