The eight-member family Maksimović from Dobrotin will soon get
a roof over their heads. The foundation stone for the new house
was laid today by the Mayor of Gračanica municipality, Srđan
Popović.
The eight-member socially disadvantaged family of Dejan
Maksimović from Dobrotin is currently living in inhumane
conditions in a decrepit and over 100-year-old house. Kosovo
Serb Association has recently organized a donor dinner in
Belgrade for this family, and the Mayor of Gračanica municipality,
Srđan Popović then promised building a new house.
"Today we are fulfilling what we have promised, we have started
to build a new house for the eight-member Maksimović family and
in that way we will provide them with a safe roof over their heads.
It is our obligation to take care of these families, to create normal
conditions for them to live, survive and stay in this area. Our goal
is a stable family and a stable society”, Popović said.
Popović added that one of the priorities of the Municipality of
Gračanica was housing for the socially disadvantaged, and
recalled that the construction of a residential building with a total
of 36 apartments began in Gračanica a week ago.
Besides Mayor Popović, the foundation stone was also laid today
by the Presidents of the Temporary Body of the City Assembly of
Priština and the Municipality of Lipljan, Ljubinko Karadžić and
Zlatko Lazić, as well as host Dejan Maksimović.
Dejan's wife, Snežana Maksimović, expects a better life by
building a new house.
“We have a hard time living, on minimum wage and the dole,
without a bathroom and water, in two rooms, children sleeping in
one and me and my husband in the kitchen. We are hoping for
the better, we will have everything in the new house. Thank to
Mayor Popović and the Municipality of Gračanica for coming to
our assistance", Snežana said.
The house for the Maksimović Family is the fourth of six houses
that will be built for families from the social category through the
funds of the Municipality of Gračanica. Construction of houses for
families Simić from Gračanica, Stanojević from Laplje Selo and
Maksimović from Livađe began last week. The construction of a
house for the Simić family from Lepina and Marković family from
Sušica should begin in the coming days.
