In cooperation with the Department of Health of the Municipality of Gračanica, the Preschool Institution “Sunce” from Donja Gušterica organized today the action “A Beautiful Smile, Healthy Life” in which the children were pointed to the importance of oral hygiene – that is, the regular and proper tooth wash.
The action was held in the Preschool Institution “Sunce” in Donja Gušterica and Dobrotin. Children were shown a technique for brushing teeth and using brushes correctly, with the aim of preventing and preserving oral health. On that occasion, representatives of the Municipality of Gračanica gave toothbrushes to children.
According to dentist, Biljana Perenić, the goal of the action is that the children overcome fear of dentists.
“Kids from the nursery schools belong to a sensitive group, so we wanted to get closer to them and explain that we dentists are actually sorcerers, that we take care of them with some magic spray, to free them from fear through illustration and interaction. Parents, grandmothers and grandfathers usually scare children with doctors in order to be good, so when they come to us they are mostly insecure and scared. In this way, we want to introduce them to our instruments, show that these interventions are not always painful, all for the purpose of prevention, to start regularly and properly care about their oral health”, said Perenić.
Today’s action was also attended by the representatives of the Municipality of Gračanica, the Health Director Aleksandar Popović and Dr. Nebojša Milovanović.
“Regular and proper tooth wash is the only way to prevent the development of both caries and gum disease. It is important to teach children that prevention is the most important, and with such actions, the Municipality of Gračanica shows that our children’s health is in the first place”, says Aleksandar Popović, the health director.
Dr. Nebojša Milovanović pointed out that statistics were merciless when it came to oral health, and that every second or third child had problems with teeth due to inadequate maintenance of oral hygiene. According to him, the Municipality of Gračanica, as a socially responsible institution, recognized these problems and began to solve them with a series of steps.
“We employed professional staff, six dentists, in order to have preventive work, which is the cheapest and the best. Such actions in pre-school institutions are important for the education of our children, who are most important to us. This action is not the only one, last Sunday, we had a week of oral health in Gračanica, where we organized meetings and lectures on this topic, and in the future, with the expert team of people, we will include all preschool children in the action”, said Milovanović.
