In the interview with a representative of the magazine, Milovanovic and Micic accentuated the importance of existence of geronto – housewives, a service which, a little more than a month, provides healthcare and other services to the elderly in the municipality of Gracanica.
Micic said: "Through the Department of Health, the municipality of Gracanica funds fifteen geronto-housewives for twenty service users. We are planning to increase the number of users and geronto-housewives in the future period. In addition to maintaining the living space, geronto-housewives help the users with personal hygiene, food preparation, food procurement, and remind them that they should go to a doctor, but also to take them to health care institutions."
Deputy Mayor Nebojsa Milovanovic said that geronto-housewives are the replacement for users’ family.
Milovanovic said: "Our users typically need to talk to someone, drink coffee, and when we see their happy faces we know that we have achieved a lot with such a project. Many of them lost contact with their families or it was reduced to a minimum, and thus the warm words of our geronto-housewives mean a lot to them."
