The Municipality of Gračanica donated a cow to the family Mitrović from Radevo today, to whom thieves stole a cow and a heifer a few days ago. Mitrovićs were in the same way damaged ten years ago.
The Mitrović family was visited by the Mayor of Gračanica municipality, Srđan Popović, who emphasized that such thefts bought insecurity, but the institutions were there to take care of citizens and that everyone from their level of authority must take responsibility.
“It’s terrible when you hear that such things happen, especially to the family that lives from agriculture, who works honestly and who makes a living from its work. We found a way to react quickly and I’m glad we managed to compensate the damage to the Mitrović family to some extent. We hope that it will be helpful and we want to tell this, but also all other families, that we will always be there to provide them with a safe stay and survival”, Popović said.
“It’s terrible that such things still happen, because in a time when we have to strive for some other values, in the 21st century, we still have people who steal cows and pregnant heifers, and with such things we cannot advance. Police should work preventively and this should be stopped, because otherwise we are asking a question, if such thieves cannot be stopped, how we can count on solving some bigger crimes”, added Mayor Popović.
Spouses Miodrag and Olja Mitrović live on a small pension and from agriculture, cultivating about 4 hectares of land. They thanked the Municipality of Gračanica and Mayor Popović for the quick reaction.
“Ten years ago, we were stolen a cow from pasture, now from the stables, overnight, we did not notice anything and in the morning we saw that the cow is gone. Agriculture is the main source of our existence. We were selling cheese, clotted cream and milk, half of the village took milk from me, and thanks to that I renovated the house. We thank the Municipality of Gračanica and Mayor Popović, who mitigated the damage so-so. However, fear is present, we will think every morning when we get up about whether the cow is in the stable”, said Miodrag Mitrović.
“We did not expect someone will bring a cow in a week, no one reacted ten years ago. This way we have the will when we know that there is someone to lead us, there is someone to address to; we have hope because there are those who want to help”, said Olja Mitrović.
