At the initiative of Mayor Srđan Popović, a meeting, attended by representatives of the police and KFOR, was held on the occasion of frequent thefts happening in the territory of Gračanica municipality. A greater presence of the police was agreed for security purposes.
The meeting was attended by the Commander of the Police Station in Gračanica, Bratislav Trajković and Colonel of the Italian KFOR Nicola Perrone.
Mayor of Gračanica municipality, Srđan Popović, said after the meeting nobody would be allowed to rob our people in Gračanica and invited citizens to report any suspicious activity.
“Gračanica is our house and there must be some order. I invite citizens to get involved in solving the problem as much as possible. Citizens must report any suspicious situation to the police station, or a person they think is involved in criminal activities, and the police are there to check all these allegations. I’m sure we will get the result in that way”, Popović said.
Mayor Popović emphasized that we must all understand the situation very seriously and we must not allow it to get out of control.
“I visited some families that were damaged, and the citizens are upset with reason and expect from the institutions to protect them. The security situation is an important factor for our survival and stay in this area, so we are obliged to have constant communication and take care of them not only when it comes to the security situation, but also their existence”, Popović said.
According to the Commander of the Police Station in Gračanica, Bratislav Trajković, one of the measures to be taken is the increased presence of the police in all parts of Gračanica municipality.
“In the middle of last year, the categorization of the Police Station in Gračanica was carried out and in the forthcoming period the number of police officers will be increased”, Trajković said, and also invited citizens to cooperate and provide information to police authorities.
Saying in addition to the statement of the commander of the police station in Gračanica, Mayor Popović pointed out that Gračanica municipality was a territorially large municipality and it was very important the number of police officers to be increased as soon as possible, which would influence improvement of the security situation.
At today’s meeting, it was agreed to hold a session of the Security Committee on May 8, at which a detailed police report on the previous cases will be presented and further preventive steps identified.
