The school supplies were donated to Roma children by the Office of Community of Gracanica Municipality, headed by Deputy Mayor Sebastian Serifovic, in cooperation with the Swiss NGO "Terre des homes" and the Roma Education Centre.
Serifovic explained that within the school supplies there is all the material necessary for regular class attendance (backpacks, notebooks, rulers, pencils, pens …). The total value of school supplies is 1,500 EUR.
Serifovic said: "We are very grateful to Swiss organization because these gifts will motivate Roma children to attend school regularly. Beside that this will help children and parents who are unable to afford basic school supplies. I expect we will continue to work together in order to raise the level of education of Roma in our community."
According to him, the books will be shared to the pupils from 5th to 8th grade of elementary school in coming period.
A total of 110 pupils of the Roma population from the 1st to the 8th grade from Gracanica received school supply kit as a gift.
