Gračanica municipality is one of the seven municipalities in Kosovo that signed a memorandum on institutional and financial support to the “Women’s Inclusive Center”, the Safe House for Victims of Domestic Violence.
According to the plan, it is foreseen the Women’s Inclusive Center to be located in Novo Brdo, and besides the Municipality of Gračanica, the support of its work in order to protect and care for victims of domestic violence will be provided by the municipalities of Parteš, Ranilug, Klokot, Novo Brdo, Štrpce, Gračanica and Kamenica.
On behalf of the Municipality of Gračanica, the Memorandum was signed by Deputy Mayor Saša Danić. Prior to the signing of the memorandum and within this year’s Political Academy for Women, held with the help of NDI (National Democratic Institute) and with the support of USAID, an informal group of women from Kosovo Pomoravlje organized a round table in Gnjilane devoted to the opening of the Safe House in Novo Brdo.
During the past six months, the women from Kosovsko Pomoravlje have been working on presenting their plan for the work of the Safe House in Novo Brdo, for which there is a built and partially equipped facility already existing. At meetings with the local, but also central government representatives, they spoke about the need to help victims of violence.
An informal group of women from Kosovo Pomoravlje pointed out that the number of victims of violence had been constantly increasing, and it was necessary to provide them with assistance and right to rehabilitation.
