Srđan Popović: We continue to invest in healthcare

In the last eleven days, 24 babies were born in the maternity
hospital in Gračanica. Mayor of Gračanica municipality, Srđan
Popović announces continued investment in health care and
assistance for young married couples.
In a broad text, Belgrade Informer relayed a story from Gračanica
where an average of several hundred babies are born in a
maternity hospital here per year. This morning the story of the
maternity ward in Gračanica was dealt with by Radio Television of
Serbia.
Only in the past 11 days, as many as 24 newborns have been
born, and since the beginning of 2019, a total of 170 newborns,
proudly says the Head of the Gynecological Department of the
CHC Gračanica, Dr. Bogoljub Veljković.
According to Dr. Veljković, it is very important for the survival of
our people that more and more children are born in Kosovo.
"The number of births in our maternity hospital is higher than in
some other clinics in Serbia. The number of babies born says that
people still feel better here, that they want to stay and start a
family", says Veljković.
That Dr. Veljkovic's observation is in place says the fact that the
Municipality of Gračanica continues to invest rapidly in the health
care system.
Mayor of Gračanica municipality, Srđan Popović said that every
newborn baby was an immeasurable wealth that we were obliged
to preserve and create better living conditions to, and the
Municipality of Gračanica would continue to invest in the health

care system and staff development. According to him, the
assistance to young married couples was no less important for
the municipality.
“There is a lot of investment in the healthcare system, both
through the procurement of new equipment and the recruitment of
young doctors. With the support of the Serbian Government, the
construction of a modern hospital will begin soon. Also, the
Municipality of Gračanica pays great attention to young married
couples and parents with more children, so in just one year, it has
awarded over a hundred new apartments and houses to them”,
Popović said.
These days, Gračanica will be richer for more babies as several
pregnant women have been admitted to the gynecology
department and are waiting to give birth soon.
One of them is Tijana Micić from Sušica, who will become a
mother for the third time.
"I already have a boy and a girl and now my doctors have told me
that I carry a son. I am satisfied with the conditions and treatment
we receive at this hospital. Doctors and nurses are really careful,
so this gives us extra strength and security before giving birth”,
says Tijana, who, when asked “will there be more babies”
answers through laughter that her daughter will want a sister.
For the second time, there is an arrival in the family of Aleksandar
Popović, Director of the Health Department in the Municipality of
Gračanica. His wife Milica brought their son into the world.
"There is no nicer feeling, nothing can make a person happy like
when a baby is born. Our six-year-old daughter Petra now has a
brother, to whom we have given the name Aleksa. We never
thought to go away from here, we were born here and our
children are born and raised in Gračanica. A lot has been done in

recent years and living conditions are getting better”, Milica tells
Informer.
Gynecologist Nenad Šulović told RTS that Gračanica was in need
of a modern hospital because it lacked accommodation and
operating theaters. He says doctors are giving their best but that
huge efforts are indeed being made by institutions to improve the
situation.
